Adoption Process

FILL OUT AN APPLICATION - Our adoption process is like many other rescues in operation today. We do NOT do on-site adoptions at our adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a dog, you must fill out an application first. In order to ensure that these formerly abandoned, neglected and abused animals never find themselves in the shelter/rescue system again, we utilize an application process to help us understand the applicant's living situations and lifestyle tendencies. Having that type of information helps us ensure the applicant is matched with a dog that will fit into their lives with ease.

HOME VISIT - Once an applicant has filled out their application and the application has been approved by the foster parent and the Waggin' Tails Board, a home visit is scheduled. This visit is aimed at ensuring that what the applicant has provided on their application is true. It also helps us see how the family interacts and how other pets in the home live and are treated.

SIGN THE PAPERWORK - Once it's determined the applicant is a good match for the dog applied for, then the paperwork is signed and the dog goes to its new home. Our ultimate goal at Waggin' Tails is not to just find any home for a dog but to find the dog its FOREVER home where it can live out the rest of its life.

While we make every attempt to process an application as quickly as possible, it sometimes may take up to 5 days to complete an adoption - mostly due to our volunteers' work schedules and coordinating with adopters. In certain instances, adoptions are done in 1-2 days. It depends on the situation.
