It's a Pity

Because of the stigma attached to the bully breeds, particularly Pit Bulls, we hope you'll take some time to check out the following information about this misunderstood and persecuted breed that so many of us here at Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue have grown to love.

The term 'Pit Bull' can refer to a number of breeds and mixes. These include American Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Bull Dogs and any dogs that resemble these breeds. The 'bully breeds' have many positive attributes; they are intelligent, eager to please, highly trainable, loving and loyal dogs. Their strength, beauty and personality is what sadly makes them desirable to criminals as status symbols and for use in dog fighting.

There are an enormous number of Pit Bulls and bully breed mixes that end up at shelters. More likely than not, their fate is sealed, a death sentence, because there simply are not enough good homes for them.

We understand these are powerful animals and require homes with pet parents fully educated about the breed so that the animals in their care are safe and good representatives of the breed, to counteract the negative stereotypes.

The following links will take you to websites that can provide updated resources on behavior, training, nutrition, adoption, responsible ownership, and all things Pity. Only knowledge can combat all of the negative stereotypes that the media has perpetuated on these beautiful animals.
